Atlanta-based United Parcel Service is testing out a tricycle delivery bike in Switzerland that could carry up to 330 pounds.
The bike is picking up packages and delivering mail through downtown Basel, Switzerland this summer for four weeks.
The bike is only three feet wide and UPS says its size will save the company time and money because its easier to park than its standard trucks.
These bikes are already being used in Hamburg, Germany, but if the pilot program in Basel is successful, you may soon be seeing more of these cargo bikes in other European cities.
UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg says the company doesn't have plans for electric bikes in the Atlanta area, but it is testing electric cars here.
"The routes in inner city Basel, Switzerland, and Hamburg, Germany, make sense for electric bikes in urban settings," Rosenberg says. "The spread-out metro community here requires the trucks."
